Dining Design 2017
Faber Design have recently completed two fantastic fine dining venues: The Oyster Club in Birmingham and The Bracebridge in Sutton Coldfield. In this short interview with Faber Design we explore the secrets behind successful fine dining design. We don't just design interiors, we like to work with the chef, or owner, to design a whole concept and identity that is reflected through not only the food and the interior design but also the menu, staff uniforms and even the music. At The Oyster Club this was an important aspect of the design as the concept required 'walk-in' trade. With the 'oyster bar' 'the visible element it had to be enticing from the street. Soft 'oyster pink' hued tiles and 'wave like' patterned fabric wall coverings give a warm and inviting feel. While white marble and light oak create the elegant curves of the bar, providing relaxed separations between diners. We consider what are the key features that make each restaurant special and then create a design that emphasises and enhances these aspects. At The Bracebridge for example, subtle nuances of art deco add an extra dimension of timeless glamour and full height mirrors not only create a sense of space but also add extra views of the beautiful Bracebridge Pool from all tables. At the centre of the design is a huge, curved oyster bar that is visible from the street - reserved solely for walk-in customers to dine casually at the bar amongst the oyster shucking. We also installed a huge hanging mirror to reflect and make a statement of the ice bed of oysters that lie in wait. It was crucial to capture the essence of the park's beauty throughout the design and bringing the outside in was always key. Inspiration for colour palettes and textures was taken from surrounding foliage and vistas to create inspiring and inviting spaces. Bespoke leaf prints and artwork of the lake were commissioned to add extra levels of personality and celebrate the much-loved place. Externally, the view obviously provided the perfect backdrop to The Terrace. The design was purposefully kept simple so not to detract but enhance the natural landscape. Hut-style fixed seating frames carefully selected views over the pool, while rows of picnic style benches sat under retractable canopies are furnished with branded cushions and blankets. The wicker dining chair at The Bracebridge as it is just so simple, yet so timeless and elegant. It suits the venue perfectly. It has to be the bespoke bar stools at The Oyster Club. They are the first thing you see and adding the stitching detail to the back really makes a statement.
